The cluster

From the Manchester of the East to a modern manufacturing hub.

Ahmedabad built its fortune on textile mills, earning the name Manchester of the East. Today its GIDC estates at Vatva, Naroda and Odhav, and the Changodar and Sanand belt to the west, host pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering, cables, plastics and food processing.

Many of these plants are new or expanding, which means hiring large numbers of skilled operators who may not exist locally. TNSL’s approach for KEI, sourcing experienced cable-process operators from five industrial towns across North and West India, shows how we solve that.

Questions employers ask about staffing in Ahmedabad

How quickly can TNSL deploy contract workers in Ahmedabad?

It depends on the numbers, skills and shifts. As a guide from our own work: for a greenfield cable plant near Ahmedabad we mobilised about 200 workmen in three months, and for an FMCG plant in Aligarh we deployed 125+ workers in 45 days. We agree a ramp-up plan with you before the first deployment.

What is the minimum wage for contract workers in Ahmedabad?

In Gujarat, the minimum wage for an unskilled worker (Zone I) is ₹13,637 a month (₹524.50 a day), with higher rates for semi-skilled and skilled workers. The full table, with the effective date and source, is on this page.

Do Professional Tax and Labour Welfare Fund apply in Gujarat?

In Gujarat, Professional Tax applies and Labour Welfare Fund contributions apply. PF and ESI apply everywhere. TNSL deducts and deposits every applicable due and shares the challans with you each month.

Can TNSL staff a greenfield plant near Ahmedabad?

Yes. For KEI’s new cable plant we mobilised about 200 workmen in three months, including specialised cable-process operators sourced in person from Bhiwadi, Faridabad, Alwar, Vadodara and Surat, and became the second-largest of six vendors.

As the principal employer, what is my liability for contract workers?

Under contract labour law, the principal employer must ensure contract workers are paid on time and that PF, ESI and other dues are deposited; if the contractor fails, the liability can fall on you. TNSL removes that risk by paying on time, depositing every due, and keeping licences, registers and challans audit-ready for your inspection.
